Autumn Winter 2026 · Twenty-four looks

Livia Castellani

Fashion stylist for houses, magazines and a few private clients. Every look I build is numbered, credited and kept on a card, and this is the season's book.

The stylist

A book of looks, kept since 2011

Who dresses the pages, and what she has on while she does it.

Look 00 The stylist, in her own clothes

Wearing Shirt, Maison Aubry · Trousers, cut to her own pattern · Shoes, Ferrante, resoled twice

I build looks for houses, magazines and a small number of private clients, and I have numbered every one of them since 2011.

The first six years were spent on other people's fittings, pinning hems in the corridor of a Milanese house and then editing pages at a monthly. The card index started there: a look, its pieces, who photographed it, what was borrowed and from whom. It runs to two thousand one hundred and forty cards now, and it is the reason I can tell a client on the phone exactly what she wore to the same dinner three years ago.

Campaigns and editorials take most of the year. The private work is a few people a season, by referral, dressed for galas, weddings and the months in between. Both run the same way: a fitting, a rail, a book of looks, and nothing on the rail I have not tried on a body first. I own eleven hundred wooden hangers, all the same, and I do not allow a plastic one on a set.

The edit

Six pieces I would buy this season

What I would put on a rail for myself, chosen from the showrooms I walked this month.

The black pump, low block heel
01 Ferrante

The black pump, low block heel

The one shoe that goes under a column, a trouser and a wedding dress without an argument.

Ask about it
The chocolate belt, brass buckle
02 Casa Lombardi

The chocolate belt, brass buckle

Worn on the second hole for eleven years. It has outlasted three coats.

Ask about it
Bone cashmere scarf
03 Alderby

Bone cashmere scarf

Warm enough for a February fitting, plain enough to be in every photograph without being seen.

Ask about it
The ivory silk shirt
04 Maison Aubry

The ivory silk shirt

Cut long, so it tucks or hangs. I own four and they are all the same one.

Ask about it
The small black bag, top handle
05 Sorelle Pavan

The small black bag, top handle

Holds a phone, a tin of pins and nothing else, which is the point.

Ask about it
Long black leather gloves
06 Guanti Brera

Long black leather gloves

Every gown in this book was photographed with a pair within reach.

Ask about it

Nothing here is paid for. I take no commission from any house, which is the only reason the list is worth reading.

How it runs

The order of a booking

The same five steps for a campaign and for a wedding, at a different scale.

  1. First

    The letter A week

You write, I reply within two working days with a date or with the name of someone who can do it sooner.

  2. Second

    The fitting Half a day

In your own wardrobe or in the studio, with a tape, a tin of pins and everything you already own on the rail first.

  3. Third

    The rail Two weeks

What is missing, pulled from the houses and tried on you, never on a hanger. Nothing is bought until it has been worn.

  4. Fourth

    The book A day

Every look numbered, photographed and credited on a card, so a dinner in March can be dressed from the book in five minutes.

  5. Fifth

The day itself The morning of

Pressed, delivered and, when it matters, pinned on you at the door.

Notes

What the houses said

Written after the shoot, kept with the cards.

She arrived with the rail already in the order we would shoot it, every hanger numbered to the page. We finished at four and nobody had raised their voice.

Elena Rossi Fashion director, Rivista Sera

The campaign looked like the house, not like a stylist. That is the rarest thing there is, and it is the only reason we book the same person twice.

Matteo Ferrante Creative director, Ferrante

I wore the same coat to three dinners and nobody noticed, because she had built three looks around it. My daughter now has the card index for her own wedding.

A private client Milan

Before you write

The usual questions

Answered here so the first email can be about the clothes.

Do you travel for a fitting?
Yes. Milan and Paris are home ground; anywhere else is a day rate plus the fare, booked by you or by me, and I bring the pins.
Is there a deposit?
Half on booking for private work, the balance when the book of looks is handed over. Campaign and editorial terms are the agency's.
Can I book you directly for a campaign?
Campaign and editorial work goes through the agency, always, so that the credits, the usage and the invoice are handled by someone who does it every day.
Do you take a commission from the houses?
No, from nobody. What I put on a rail is there because it is right for you, and the houses know it.
How many private clients do you take?
Four or five a season. It is the number that lets me be at every fitting myself, which is the whole point of asking me.

Now booking
